Grade 11 - £64,086 - £76,929 per annum (£80,775 unconsolidated maximum, achievable through performance-related progression)
Full-time, 36 hours per week
Permanent contract
Location - Sutton Civic Offices


About us
Sutton is an ambitious borough with a newly adopted Cultural Framework designed to leverage Council cultural assets and community-based arts and culture. We’ve made a great start, investing in a major transformation programme including staff restructure, complete refurbishment of Sutton Central Library, digital and other improvements right across the library network of 8 branches, plus completing a major Heritage Lottery funded refurbishment of one of the Borough’s historic houses in Cheam. Sutton has also taken on the lead role for the shared services offered by the London Libraries Consortium.The task now is to deliver the next phase of modernisation of cultural services, ensuring they are efficient and continue to meet the changing needs of Sutton residents. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, capable and dynamic individual, ready to join us in realising our ambitions for the people of Sutton and its cultural offer.

About the role
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for delivering the Library Strategy 2019 to 2023, a new Cultural Framework for Sutton and the Heritage and Arts offer across the Borough. Sutton is the lead authority for the London Libraries Consortium and the Head of Cultural Services is the strategic lead for the consortium comprising 17 members.

The role includes management responsibility for a number of posts and supporting the Assistant Director of Wellbeing in the strategic development of the service.

About you
To succeed in this role you need to be highly motivated, an innovative thinker and able to lead change with a passion for delivering high quality public services despite the financial challenges facing the sector. Sound business skills are required and commercial awareness. You will be experienced in managing a significant budget and in making a contribution to cultural strategy and planning in a similar sized organisation. Confidence in your ability to provide strong and inspiring leadership to staff of all levels is essential. You will also be comfortable supporting and advising political leaders, and helping shape strategy at a corporate level.
